Why Does GOD Encourage His Children To Give?

Giving causes us to grow in our faith.

Everyone has financial needs, but not everyone trusts God to meet those needs. Some people trust their physical ability to bring in a paycheck. Some people trust their employer for security. Some trust in the government. Others trust in family members. Still others trust in their retirement portfolio to meet their needs. All of those sources for economic security are legitimate in the proper context, but none of them are totally reliable. There is only one totally reliable source for every legitimate need: our heavenly Father.

Philippians 4:19 NKJV / Malachi 3:10 NKJV

Our giving finances His ministry.

If the Lord wanted to finance His own kingdom, He could turn NFC’s pulpit into solid gold. At today’s prices, the church could sell the gold, finance every pet project, and have money left over for more projects. However, that wouldn’t accomplish God’s intended purpose for giving. For one thing, our faith wouldn’t develop. But we would also forfeit one of the great benefits of giving: God uses our abundance to supply the needs of those who are without. You see, it’s not just the givers who experience an increase in faith; the receivers of the gift are encouraged in their faith. Giving blesses those who give and encourages those who receive.

2 Corinthians 8:14-15 NIV

Giving reveals God’s power.

Vicki and I began tithing the week of our conversion—almost forty years ago! Today I can testify that God has always been faithful to meet our needs. I have seen Him do amazing things because of our faithfulness in giving. And the more I see Him reveal His power through our faithfulness in giving, the more I trust Him. He has never failed, not once. It’s not that I have faith in tithing; it’s that I have faith in Him to reveal His power when I give.
